Find copy-sites using FairShare
Martin at gHacks wrote an article yesterday about how to get notified if people use your content and it spurred me to try the service myself. FairShare is a movement and a website which lets you monitor how your content spreads around the net.
Once you sign up, a feed will be available for your website, and copies of your work will show up. If FairShare sees a site which copied more than 20% of your website it will send you an RSS notification. I registered last night, and I already got a “great” result, I found a site, which didn’t just copy articles, it copied the entirety of Hack Your Day, translated to different languages.
If you own a domain and constantly have new content you are also in danger of this sadly. I mean Hack Your Day is not a huge site, nowhere near gHacks, and still, you can find copies like this all over the place, since they are generated automatically. The sad thing is that they also use ads to monetize my content.
Anyway, thanks to gHacks for the tip and FairShare for the great service, I hope they will find many copies because that means Hack Your Day is growing! It also means that I can be super formal and badass when contacting these sites, Yeah!
