Working on the go
I am on the train right now, writing posts, and I just lost my last post (rewritten since) because of some saving stupidity. When on a train I’m less at home, mostly because I don’t have a mouse handy, which means I’m more prone to mistakes. This has happened to me more than once now, so if you’re in a similar situation, I have a tip which could save you some time.
If you’re writing posts, write all of them in the same file and save it regularly. This will mean that you only have to handle one file, you won’t loose the contents so easily. Also, if you work in Notepad, not a more resource hungry app like Word, you can probably prolong your battery life too.
I actually hate writing posts in Notepad, or anything else that is not code for that matter, but it beats having to rewrite it from scratch, especially since I always feel that the second edition isn’t as good.

This “tip” is ridiculous!
Are you seriously suggesting that people should use Notepad instead of Word because it may (or may not) conserve battery power and it makes losing the contents of files less likely? Really?
What about the simple fact that writing anything of a significant length & complexity is surely a quicker task to complete in Word because it’s a far more productive editing environment, and therefore it would likely take LONGER to compose the same text in Notepad, and hence using Notepad would probably use MORE battery power than Word in the scenario you describe?
And as for the “file loss” issue, how exactly will Notepad protect you from your own stupidity (the cause of file loss that you stated) in a way that Word won’t?
And what about Word’s AutoRecover feature, which you can configure to autosave as frequently as you like?
And surely when your laptop runs out of power it just sleeps/hibernates anyway, allowing you to resume from where you left off once you’ve plugged it back into a power source?
I usually like the posts on HackYourDay.com but this one really is pretty half-baked!
I think you missed my point, I stand by my post. I hope you enjoy my fully baked posts though!
