post it logoWho doesn’t use Post its? I mean I’m not a frequent user, but whenever I need to scribble something down quickly, or leave a quick note on the fridge, I’d be lost without them. No one in my household is big on them, and we still have about 3 boxes of flags, 4 big post it packs and a few small yellow and green ones lying around. Imagine what the post it geek has at home? Since I do love this awesome invention, let me show you some of the cooler ways to store and use them.

Clear Top Dispenser

clear top post it dispenserLet me show you one of my favorites for the desktop, this stylish Clear Top Dispenser. I really like the contrast of the black base with the slight curve of the clear top, holding the underlying post it pack firmly in place. If you have a modern desk this will definitely suit it, but perhaps it will go well with a huge oak desk too. It holds 3×3 notes, but I couldn’t really tell if notes are initially supplied. I found one here at home at Office Depot without one, but who knows how Amazon ships it. There’s a 4 x 4 version available as well, so if that’s more like your cup of tea, check it out!

Desktop Note and Flag Dispenser

desktop note dispenserThe Desktop Note and Flag Dispenser is the bigger brother of the above dispenser. It facilitates a 3 x 3 block note pad and two flags for bookmarking. It looks just as cool as the other one, but has more room, so I would definitely go for this one if you have the desktop space (and you use flags). If your desktop is lacking in free space, you may be better off with just the note holder, since flags usually come in their own plastic holders anyway. Nevertheless, this is a stylish and useful adition to any desk.

Assorted On The Go Notes

assorted notes on the goMy next edition look great and can be used well, but has some deficiencies though. The Assorted On The Go Notes are great because you can easily put them in any ring binder. I also find the colors quite cool, and the varying sizes are chosen well. The problem with this one is that it is not an official 3M product, so probably there are no refills available. There are also only 25 of each, which one one hand is not too much, on the other hand if you put more it will take up too much space in the binder. I think some people will love this, others will have absolutely no use for it.

3M Portable Notes

3m portable notesThe 3m Portable Notes is the 3M version of the assorted notes. It offers only a one size note, but five colors of flags, 20 of each. You can use it in binders easily, but it will probably fit in your pocket too if needed. If you use flags a lot this is a much better option, 100 flags should be enough until you can buy a new one right?

Zip Sticky Note Dispenser

zip note dispenserI wanted to leave the best for last, I’m ordering this right now! The Zip Dispenser is great because it holds a roll of sticky notes, instead of a block. Just tear off the exact length you need. No longer are you tied to fixed size notes, you will have total freedom! Wow, I would be a good freedom fighter! It’s battery operated, so that’s some extra coolness for you, and there are also Refill Rolls available right here for $4 a pop.

Desk accessories are really important, not necessarily because they are so important in your productivity routine, but because they can look soooo good. Some of these are for your productivity, some of them are for your design buds, and some are just down right the best for the job, take a look.

Book Stand

book standAh, the trusty Book Stand. As simple as it may sound, I find very few that actually make the cut. I hate ones that attach to my desk, since these usually don’t fit my comfort level, or since I read all over the place, I need to go to great lengths to fasten it to everywhere I go.

The days of my book stand miseries may now be over, since this sturdy piece stands on its own legs. I can now read while I’m eating, While I’m lying on my stomach and in any other place where I would put down my book. You can also use it to keep some reference papers handy for easy viewing. At about $9 I would say the Book Stand is quite a deal since it’s very practical and keeps your book open for you easily.

Wood Charger Station

charger stationTelephone, camera battery and misc batteries, these are the items I charge regularly, and more often than not, I spend at least 5 minutes untangling the cords. This Wood Charging Station was conceived for people like me (and possibly even you) to charge our stuff and simultaneously hide the cords.

This particular model can comfortably charge 5 items, with room for some accessories in there as well. If you have a largeish desk, it will comfortably fit on one side you can even use it as a pen holder if you need to. At $45 the Charging Station isn’t a cheap buy, but it looks great and hides the cable clutter from view.

Classic Call Bell

call bellGosh, I’ve always wanted one of these. Whenever I stay at hotels, the darn receptionist is always there. I never have the chance to sound these call bells legitimately. Sure, I’ve done so in the sneaky way I do when no one is watching, I’ve even actually asked receptionists if I can go for it, but never have I had the chance to put it to good use.

Well, you can get one for your desk, I’m not sure for what purpose, but it’s a cool accessory is it not? You can sound it as a reward when you finished something on your to so list, you can call your wife (ouch… sorry dear), or you can just use it to drain your anger, at $3.5 I don’t think the Call Bell is a bank breaker.

Desk Organizer

desk organizationI actually use this on my desk, it’s quite handy to keep virtually anything around, and even organized. This particular Desk Organizer gives you three horizontal and three upright storage shelves, made out of that black wire mesh you so often see on CEO desks. It’s not huge, but you do need a decent sized table so you have some free workspace after you start using it.

Productivity is at its peak when you have cool organizer toys like this, so I definitely recommend this one. You can store your notes in one compartment, to do’s on another, the day’s finished items in yet another, but I can think of dozens of options. Perhaps you should buy dozens then of this $35 Desk Organizer, which I would say is quite fairly prices, since it has a nice base to go with it. If you were to assemble this from its parts you would probably get it cheaper though.

Since I came of age (hah), Office Depot has become the new Toys R’ Us for me. I mean you can get all kinds of notepads, post it stuff, calendars, printers, chairs, and a whole lot more. I can easily spend a lot of time in there, but enough of me telling you why I’m crazy, let me show you some cool stuff. Oh, and this month I had 11 items ordered through Hack Your Day, so thank you to all those ordering through my site.

Organizer Cart

organizer cartMy first choice may seem a bit weird, since the official name is “Classroom Cart and Organizer“. The reason I’m showing this to you is that for me this would be perfect. I pretty much divide my time and I live 3.5 days a week in one city, and 3.5 in another. I spend at least 20 minutes before and after each trip (four occasions a week) packing my essential stuff. I need my external drive, my folders, my Moleskine, my Laptop (and everything that that includes) and a host of other work related stuff.

While this cart is not something you might take to a business meeting, it is perfect for personal use if you travel a lot. It can be fully closed and opened (like you see in the pic), and the design isn’t too childish either, it reminds me of an everyday suitcase.

In addition, with some modification, you could use it as your workstation, since after punching a few pluggable holes in there, you could just get out your laptop, and plug everything in, while keeping all the cables and stuff inside the cart. All in all I love the Classroom Cart and Organizer and I wouldn’t mind dishing the 50 bucks they ask for it.

Rotating phone cord detangler

chord detanglerYes, you heard me, this little thing is a cord detangler. Please do not buy one of these. Just take that $4 and send it to me instead, I’ll write you a personalized post on how not to pirouette while on the phone, so it won’t entangle itself. You need to plug this gadget straight into your phone, and plug the cord, into it. It will turn as you move, so it won’t allow the string to tangle.

To tell you the truth, this wouldn’t be a bad idea to build into phones, but buying anything separately for this? I love the site of a really good tangled phone cord, which allows you to stray a full 2 inches from the phone base! When all is said and done if you order through Hack Your Day, I get commission, so don’t let me stop you, all your phone cord tangling probles will be solved. No need to thank me.

Orange File Folders

file folders in orangeNow this is nothing special at all, a 100 pack of legal sized dual colored File Folders. The reason I love them is the simplicity of it all. They will appeal to people with a few sheets of paper lying around, but also to the GTD productivity ninja, because you can make good use of them in your GTD system as well.

For me it is a benefit that they all look the same, it gives me a more organized feel, something which is very important for my work morale. They are all a great shade of orange on the outside, while a lighter shade on the inside, creating a soothing feeling as well. I know this sounds a bit like a sales pitch or a paid article, but for me looks are very imporstant. I go for soothing any time and this is definitely it. Oh, and it’s all recycled, so that’s another plus in my book.

If you need a box of File Folders, click on the link and buy them for $30, that’s just $0.3 a piece.

Easel Ring Binder

ring binders that stand upAgain, I here the words “What?” arise from my readers. The Easel Ring Binder is a normal binder, which can be propped up, much like a desktop calendar. There are loads of people who create daily task lists for themselves, and for you guys it would be great to be able to have this staring you in the face without having to shift through some papers (or files) to find it. Just write it down (or print it), place it in this binder, prop it up, and place it next to your calendar.

You can also print tomorrow’s tasks, or other bits of info you need throughout the day, you will be able to access it easily, without having to pull it out all the time. If you won’t use it like this, I recommend getting a different binder, since the Easel Ring Binder at a hefty (for a 1″ binder) $10.2, you can get a regular one for about $3 - $4. Yes, this is the price I have pay for productivity.
